Sustainable Sunday - Daring Deodorant

Let’s talk about deodorants.

We all rely heavily on an effective deodorant that keeps us feeling fresh all day, but what is actually in those deodorants isn’t so pretty. Aluminium (a harmful chemical) is the active ingredient in most standard deodorants, which has been linked to Cancer and Alzheimers.
Our skin absorbs roughly 60% of everything we put onto it - we have to make conscious decisions!

With that in mind, here’s a thought for you:
Why then would you put anything on your skin that you wouldn’t eat or ingest?

Say hello to a Zero Waste recipe I rely on which ….wait for it…. WORKS!
Go ahead and chime in with your “I’ve tried natural deodorants they don’t work!..”
I’m challenging you to give this a try, because I’ve been using this for a while now and yes, you do still sweat, but you definitely won’t smell.

A bold claim, but one I’ll stand by.

Here’s the recipe:

6 Tablespoons Coconut oil

¼ cup baking soda

¼ Cup Cornflour

Essential oils – I used Lavender and Dewberry

Sift together the baking soda and corn flour, then add the coconut oil and 20-30 drops of essential oils. Mix well. Pour into a jar or old stick deodorant container and pop into the fridge to set. I like to keep mine in the fridge during the day and take it out at night so it is soft enough to scoop out in the morning. Just use finger tips to apply.
Easy as!

Zero Waste

Chemical Free

Sometimes life is busy and you may not have time to make the recipes that I share, so I would encourage you to do some research - there are plenty of incredible companies making deodorants that are chemical free and zero waste, it’s just about finding the right one for you!

Happy Sustainable Sunday!
