Sustainable Sunday - Razor Sharp

With my current war against plastic continuously on the rise, my next battle was that of plastic razors.

Sure they aren’t terrible,  you can reuse the handles and they last a while, but it all comes down to one word. Unrecyclable.
They come in copious amounts of plastic packaging and don’e even get me started on how infuriating it is to open them! So I decided to go one step further and purchase a beautifully designed safety razor - doesn’t that just roll off the tongue nicely?

I didn’t want to jump the gun by talking about this product before I had tried it, so I threw it in my backpack and took it around South America - surely that would be a good enough test? As I travelled, I often had little control over how much waste I produced. It was frustrating, but I was grateful for my safety razor - it was something I could control.

There are lots of great options available, so go ahead and do some research. I got mine for around $30, but (speaking from experience) don’t forget to purchase the blades!!

Sure these razors are targeted towards men, but who says women cant use them?! In the space of 5 months, I’d change the blade around 4 times, they’re easy to use and care for! Simply dry it after each use and oil it every couple of uses - coconut oil works a treat!

SUPER IMPORTANT NOTE: Don’t throw the little blades in the recycling as they can fall through cracks, cause harm to workers and damage to recycling machines. I collect mine in a jar so that I can dispose of them properly later.

Smooth Skin

Zero Waste

Who said all hippies are hairy!
